One of the biggest challenges for any photographer is winnowing the photographs down to those shots that really capture the essence of the whole shoot. That self-criticism is really hard, but also really necessary. So for each location—Xi’an and surrounds, Beijing, Tibetan Plateau, and Kunming—I picked three photos that I feel really captured my experiences of the people and places, sights and sounds.
